Regrettably, this plan never came to fruition. Clues hidden throughout DS and DS2 indicated that the Church of Unitology was planning to unleash these space-faring necropolises upon Earth and all her off-world colonies in order to spread Convergence throughout the galaxy. Unitology’s holy war pervades the Dead Space saga, but it seems to me that the first and second installations of the saga made preparations for the unveiling of a Unitologist weapon that was surprisingly absent in the third: the Church’s fleet of Mausoleum ships. Throughout the events of the Dead Space saga, Isaac Clarke finds himself caught in the crossfire of this conflict, trying desperately to evade powers on both sides that wish to use him to achieve their own ends. This holy war begins as a series of covert operations carried out by the Church’s cooperate pawns and escalates into open warfare against EarthGov’s military forces, resulting in the near-extinction of humankind. Although it is not entirely obvious, the driving force behind the events of the Dead Space saga is a holy war being waged by the Church of Unitology against EarthGov.
